Let’s look at some examples of German connectors:

 
– Der Film startet um 20 Uhr, und wir haben noch nicht einmal die Tickets gekauft. (The movie starts at 8pm and we haven’t even bought the tickets yet.)

– Wir können Essen gehen, oder wir lassen uns etwas liefern. (We can go out to eat, or we can have something delivered.)

– Wir können die Sitzung schließen sofern keiner mehr Fragen hat. (We can close the meeting if no one has any more questions.)

– Ich blieb auf der Party, obwohl ich sehr müde war. (I stayed at the party even though I was very tired.)

– Wir hatten zwar noch Deutsche Mark, aber mit denen konnte man nicht mehr bezahlen. (We still had German Deutsche Mark, but you could no longer pay with them.)

– Ich habe Kopfschmerzen, deswegen kaufe ich jetzt in die Apotheke und kaufe mir ein paar Kopfschmerztabletten. (I have a headache, so now I go to the pharmacy and buy some headache pills.)

In these examples, the connectors connect two (sub)sentences. In this case, they are conjunctions.
